Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. This helps the skin get crispy and allows the seasoning to stick better.
- In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Rub this mixture evenly over both sides of the chicken thighs.
- Arrange the chicken thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they're not touching each other for even cooking.
- Bake for 25 minutes. Then remove from oven and brush generously with BBQ sauce. If using brown sugar, sprinkle it lightly over the sauced chicken.
- Return to oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the sauce is caramelized and sticky.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
Choose bone-in, skin-on thighs for best results; don't overcrowd the pan; apply BBQ sauce during last 10-15 minutes to prevent burning; use meat thermometer to ensure 165°F internal temperature.
