Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 6 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 clove garlic, halved (for rubbing)

Method

Instructions
  1. In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix gently and let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden and crisp. Alternatively, you can grill the bread slices for a smoky flavor.
  3. Once the bread slices are toasted, rub the cut side of the halved garlic clove over each slice. This step infuses the bread with a subtle garlic flavor.
  4. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each garlic-rubbed bread slice. Serve immediately to enjoy the freshness of the ingredients.

Notes

Choose ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. The tomato mixture can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Toast the bread and assemble just before serving to keep it crisp.
